Introducing… That Handsome Devil. Hailing from Boston, the miscreant “fringe pop” outfit is laying down something new, borne of the oldest American musical forms – jazz, blues, and rock. Some of it is dirty, but what can you expect from fellow high school dropouts, a songwriter called Godforbid and producer Jeremy Page. Both attended the School of Hard Knocks but came thru the real world and made it on their own. Now Jeremy has recorded Godforbid’s songs on tape in this debut EP.

Godforbid sharpened his teeth in the 90’s, collaborating with Hip-Hop legend Thirstin Howl III under the name Alaskan Fishermen. Jeremy learned how to give good sound and now runs Boston’s illustrious Cyber Sound Studio. Together they have brought you seven songs including “Dating Tips,“ their first single from 2003 and a tongue-in-cheek guide to picking up woman, “Elephant Bones,” a pop song written about how the world will look after we (the human race) are all long gone [Casinos, Pornos, talk shows where White Trash go to die/ Bums push carts, crack head squirrels and birds to drunk to fly”], “Sleep It Off,” a funk song that miraculously and awesomely mixes horns and 70s-TV-theme synth, “Yada-Yada” which sounds tame enough until it breaks into a thrashing guitar chorus, and more… With edgy lyrics and hard-hitting production, these songs are poppy enough to make Barry Gordy smile and so gritty you can’t take it home to meet the folks.

Ask Godforbid about his past and he’ll tell you that as a young kid he would take long trips with his stepfather who was a truck driver. He learned to shoot pool while watching his father perform at various Country Bars and honky tonk saloons across the country. But in the next breath he’ll tell you his major influences are Public Enemy, Charles Bukowski, Simbionese Liberation Army, Timothy Leary, Nietzsche & Guns & Roses. Don’t question it. Don’t fight it. Just go with it, because no matter who you are, in one way or another, this music is going to kick your ass.
